Freeman active for Game 3 but Dodgers make pitching substitution

Freddie Freeman is back in the lineup for Game 3 of the NLDS.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Freeman will be back at first base and hitting third after missing Game 2 against the San Diego Padres with an ankle injury.

Freeman injured his ankle while running bases in late September and missed the final series of the regular season with the injury.

In other Dodgers news, right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius has been added to the NLDS roster.

MLB approved the roster change after an injury to right-handed pitcher Michael Grove. MLB’s Medical Director Dr. Gary Green confirmed the injury after fully reviewing the medical information.

Grove made 39 appearances during the regular season and posted a 5.12 ERA and 54 strikeouts over 51 innings. He appeared in the Dodgers’ 10-2 loss to the Padres allowing a home run while recording a strikeout.

Casparius made just three appearances in the big leagues this season. Over the three games, he allowed two earned runs on nine hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks across 8.1 innings.
