Joey Votto has three hits, two RBIs in rehab game with single-A Dunedin

Joey Votto appears to be rounding into form.

After struggling in his return to action with the single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, the 40-year-old had his best game of the year on Tuesday.

Votto went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in Dunedin’s game against the Clearwater Threshers. He was pinch-hit for in the top of the eighth inning, ending his night.

A Toronto native, Votto came into Tuesday’s game 1-for-15 with three walks during his rehab stint.

The Blue Jays’ 2023 first-round pick Arjun Nimmala also had a solid game for Dunedin on Tuesday, going 2-for-5 with a double.

Votto, the 2010 NL MVP, is working back from a sprained ankle he suffered during spring training, which has kept him off the field for three months. He has also been dealing with some back tightness that has limited his full return to the field.
