Mets’ Francisco Lindor exits in first game back from injury

New York Mets superstar Francisco Lindor exited Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies after appearing hobbled on a run to first base.

The incident occurred early on in Sunday’s game, as Lindor hit a single to centre field and took him time getting to first. He stayed in the game, and took the field for defence in the bottom of the inning, but was replaced in the bottom of the second.

Luisangel Acuña, who made his MLB debut on Saturday, took his spot at shortstop.

The Mets later reported that his removal was due to back discomfort, which kept him out of Saturday’s game against the Phillies and saw him removed from Friday’s game. He was considered day-to-day after before being a surprise late addition to the lineup on Sunday.

The 30-year-old has been on a tear this season and is firmly entrenched in the NL MVP race, putting up .270/.341/.493 batting splits with 31 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Acuña, the brother of Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr., had a solid debut for New York on Saturday after going 2-for-4 with two singles.
