MLB The Show video game adding female players for first time

The upcoming MLB The Show 24 video game will allow users to create and play as female baseball players for the first time in the series.

Sony Interactive’s San Diego Studio, the makers of the game, announced the new game mode in a trailer released on Tuesday. The new mode, called “Road to the Show: Women Pave Their Way” will allow users the chance to play the full “Road to the Show” mode as a woman. In “Road to the Show,” users create their unique custom player and work their way up through the minor leagues to earn a spot on a major league team.

“This new gameplay experience is a unique pivot in the baseball world that will encourage, inspire and motivate individuals to chase their dreams,” said Kelsie Whitmore, who in 2022 became the first woman to play for an MLB-affiliated minor-league team. “My hopes for this project is to educate others that women/girls do play baseball and that they are capable of competing in this game at every level.”

MLB The Show 24, featuring Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the cover, will launch on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo platforms on March 19.
