MLBPA announces finalists for 2024 Players Choice Awards

The Major League Baseball Players Association announced the finalists for the 2024 Players Choice Awards on Monday.

The Yankees’ Aaron Judge, the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani, and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals headline the awards as nominees for the Player of the Year, while the Braves’ Max Fried, the Brewers’ Rhys Hoskins, the Guardians’ Steven Kwan and the Twins’ Pablo López are finalists for the Marvin Miller Man of the Year, an award that recognizes leadership and contributions to the community.

This year, for the first time, there will be a Philanthropist of the Year Award given to an athlete that embodies an altruistic spirit and commitment to creating a positive social impact. Finalists include Hoskins, the Reds’ Brent Suter and Jose Trevino of the Yankees.

Additionally, Dave Winfield and the late Scott Sanderson are nominated for the Curt Flood Award, which is given to a former player who demonstrates selflessness and devotion to player rights.

The four remaining categories include Outstanding Player Award, Outstanding Pitcher Award, Outstanding Rookie Award and Comeback Player Award, with finalists from both the American League and the National League.

Blue Jays pitcher Chad Green is a nominee for the Comeback Player Award alongside Garrett Crochet (White Sox) and Tyler O’Neill (Red Sox) in the American League, and Hoskins, Jurickson Profar (Padres) and Chris Sale (Braves) from the National League.

This season marks the third annual MLBPA Players Choice Awards, which are chosen through a vote by active MLB players. The winners will be announced ahead of Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday.
