Orioles’ Henderson, Red Sox’s Casas, Guardians’ Bibee finalists for AL Rookie of the Year

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas and Cleveland Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee were named finalists for the American League’s Rookie of the Year award Monday night.

Henderson, 22, hit 28 home runs while slashing .255/.325/.489 over 150 with the AL-East champion Orioles. The former second-round pick was also an above-average defender and baserunner.

He led all AL rookies in homers, RBI (82), extra-base hits (65) and runs scored (99).

Casas hit .263/.367/.490 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI while drawing the second-most walks among AL rookies. The 23-year-old took off in the second half, boosting his batting average to.317 with 15 home runs over his final 54 games.

Bibee threw the second most innings of any AL rookie, giving the Guardians 142 innings with a 2.98 ERA and 141 strikeouts. He also posted a 10-4 record over 25 starts.
