Red Sox’s Kelly to start second game of doubleheader, Blue Jays add Eisert

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ quest for an unofficial six-game winning streak will go through Zack Kelly. At least to start.

According to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo, Kelly will get the ball for the Boston Red Sox to start the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Kelly will face off against Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios. The Blue Jays won Monday’s first game 4-1 in a resumption of a June 26 game that was postponed due to rain.

The Blue Jays swept the Angels in a four-game series before arriving in Boston. Monday’s win in Game 1 will be credited for occurring on June 26, thus not counting towards their current win streak.

Kelly, 29, will be making his third start of the season for the Red Sox. He has a 2.74 ERA over 49.1 innings in 2024.

The Blue Jays also made a roster move, as they added left-handed reliever Brandon Eisert from triple-A Buffalo as their 27th man for Monday night’s game. MLB teams are able to add a 27th man to the 26-man roster for the day of a doubleheader.

Eisert, 26, has appeared in two games for the Blue Jays in 2024. He has a 5.79 ERA over 4.2 innings pitched. Over 44.2 innings with triple-A Buffalo, Eisert has a 4.03 ERA.

Boston announced that its 27th man will be left-hander Bailey Horn.
