Reds acquire Ty France from Mariners for minor-league catcher

After being designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners, former All-Star Ty France has found a new home.

The Cincinnati Reds announced Monday that they have acquired the first baseman from Seattle, along with cash considerations for minor-league catcher Andruw Salcedo.

France, 30, struggled through the first half of the year in Seattle, managing just a .662 OPS and eight home runs over 88 games.

An All-Star in 2022, France was designated for assignment on July 23, so the Mariners had seven days to trade him or place him on either outright or unconditional release waivers.

He will now join a Reds team with a 50-55 record, sitting 5.0 games out of a National League wild-card spot.

Salcedo, 21, has only played in seven games this season, posting a .188/.350/.188 slash line in single-A. The switch-hitting catcher has been on the development list since June 25.
