Tigers send RHP Jack Flaherty to Dodgers for two prospects

The Detroit Tigers traded right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for minor-league catcher Thayron Liranzo and infielder Trey Sweeney.

Flaherty, 28, pitched to a 7-5 record with a 2.95 ERA and 0.956 WHIP during his lone spell with the Tigers after signing a one-year, $14-million contract with the club this past off-season.

The Dodgers will be Flaherty’s fourth team since being dealt by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023, making stops in Baltimore and Detroit before wrapping up his expiring contract in Los Angeles.

Flaherty showed potential of being a bonafide ace during his fifth season with the Cardinals in 2021, jumping to an 8-0 record to start the season while buoying a 3.22 ERA and holding batters to a .199 average when taking the mound.

His career-high 231 punchouts a year prior showed a glimpse of how Flaherty could perform at the top of his game.

The Dodgers will be looking for that with Flaherty nestled in their rotation for the remainder of 2024.
