‘The Lou is behind you’: Cardinals salute Jayson Tatum during warmups

When the St. Louis Cardinals took to the field to warm up ahead of their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, they did so honouring a local legend.

The relief pitchers on the squad unveiled their support for home-grown NBA star Jayson Tatum by donning Celtics No. 0 jerseys.

Tatum — whose Celtics are currently leading the NBA Finals 2-0 — took time to thank the Cardinals for the tribute with a post on Instagram.

“Much love,” Tatum wrote.

Since being drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2017, Tatum has remained tethered to his hometown through his foundation which is headquartered in St. Louis. Each year, the Jayson Tatum Foundation sponsors approximately 100 boys and girls to attend an all-expenses-paid one-day summer Basketball Camp and Leadership Program.

The Cardinals have honoured Tatum before and the five-time all-star has thrown out the first pitch at Busch Stadium a couple of times.

The first time came in 2018 after his rookie season.

This was followed up a few years later with another performance on the mound from Tatum, with his son Deuce giving him moral support.
