Blue Jays’ Kiermaier expected to be fine after injury

Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder Kevin Kiermaier left Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers with a right-knee contusion after fouling a ball off his knee during his first at-bat.

Though he seemed to be in pain immediately after, he was able to walk to the clubhouse between innings on his own accord and without a noticeable limp.

“He’s good. They checked him out up in the clubhouse,” said manager John Schneider during the broadcast. “I think if this is a regular-season game, Kev is in there. So hopefully he’s good to go tomorrow.”

Kiermaier, 34, has four home runs and seven RBI in 35 at-bats this spring training.

The four-time Gold Glove Award recipient re-signed with the Blue Jays in December on a one-year, $10.5-million contract.
