Wagner ties Blue Jays record with five hits in first two games

Will Wagner has been a major leaguer for two games and already has his name in the record books.

With two more doubles against the Angels on Tuesday, Wagner tied a Toronto Blue Jays record with five hits in his first two MLB games.

The others who have done it are Danny Ainge (1979), Lloyd Moseby (1980), Eric Hinske (2002) and Davis Schneider (2023).

Wagner had three hits including a double in his MLB debut on Monday. Overall, the second baseman is five for eight at the plate with three doubles, three RBIs and a run scored.

The Blue Jays acquired Wagner, the son of former MLB pitcher Billy Wagner, from the Astros as part of the Yusei Kikuchi trade.

“I’m not changing any habits right now,” a superstitious Billy Wagner said of his son’s hot start during Tuesday’s Blue Jays broadcast. “We’ve got no sleep and just a lot of entertainment so it’s been fun to be here.”
