Lionel Messi’s new head coach is a familiar face.
The Athletic reported on Saturday that former Argentina Captain Javier Mascherano will take over as Inter Miami’s new head coach.
Mascherano, 40, played alongside Messi on both the Argentine national team and with Barcelona.
During his time with the Spanish club, the former midfielder also played alongside current Inter Miami players Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez.
The new Miami skipper retired from playing in 2020 and has been coaching Argentina’s Under-20 and Under-23 teams since 2021.
Mascherano is replacing Gerardo “Tata” Martino, 61, who stepped down citing personal reasons.
