Travis Galbraith, a star on the Canadian mixed martial arts scene in the early 2000s, was found dead in British Columbia earlier this week. He was 43.
Prince George RCMP confirmed to CTV News that Galbraith was found dead on Tuesday, not long after he was reported missing after not coming home from a weekend rafting trip.
Shara Vigeant, one of deceased’s former coaches, described Galbraith as “not only an exceptional athlete but a wonderful human,” in a social media post.
Galbraith, whose 43rd birthday was on May 18, was the third professional opponent of retired UFC champion and superstar Georges St-Pierre.
The Edmonton native competed in MMA from 2001-2010, amassing an 18-7 pro record and competing against notable Canadian UFC fighters Jonathan Goulet and Joe Doerkson, plus former Strikeforce champion Rafael Cavalcante and Kazuhiro Nakamura in his lone Pride FC bout.
Goulet replied to Vigeant's post with a message that read: “I'm really sorry for your loss!! He was a great fighter.” His condolences happened to be sent on the 20-year anniversary of their 2004 fight in the defunct TKO MMA promotion.
