Considering all the various obstacles the organization had to overcome in 2020, Bellator MMA enjoyed a strong past year and has some nice momentum heading into 2021.
The organization held three events early in the year before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of six scheduled events. Following a five-month hiatus, Bellator president Scott Coker and his staff returned in July and ended up holding and additional 15 events.
Most of their shows were out of the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., but Bellator also held multiple events in Italy and hosted France’s first major MMA event since the sport was legalized in the country.
Bellator has a surplus of knockout artists on its roster and they were more than happy to show off their skills, regardless of whether or not there were fans in the seats.
Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and Vadim Nemkov used brilliant combinations and overwhelming power to win main event title fights; Michael Chandler put away Benson Henderson before taking his talents to the UFC after 10 highly successful years competing under the Bellator banner; rising featherweight star Aaron Pico had his hand raised three times in 2020 times and twice were via the knockout.
There were flying knees, spinning backfists, devastating kicks, punches, elbows and Bellator compiled the best of the best in the video below.
Bellator recently added two of the sport’s most explosive fighters in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Yoel Romero, so more wild KOs are bound to happen in the Bellator cage in 2021.
