An upcoming boxing match between mixed martial arts stars and former UFC opponents Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal has a new date and location, according to a report.
The 10-round bout will go down July 6 at Anaheim’s Honda Center instead of taking place June 1 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif., as originally planned, according to Lance Pugmire of Boxing Scene.
The primary reason for the change was to avoid a conflict with UFC 302, an event that takes place on the same night in Newark, N.J., and one that would overshadow Diaz vs. Masvidal from a business and audience share standpoint if they took place simultaneously.
Diaz and Masvidal headlined UFC 244 in November 2019, when they competed for the inaugural "BMF Title," with Masvidal winning the bout and belt by doctor’s stoppage due to a cut over one of Diaz’s eyes.
Both 39-year-old fighters were known for having quality boxing skills relative to most MMA fighters they competed against in the UFC, however neither has a long history in pro boxing.
Masvidal has one professional bout to his name, a four-round majority decision win back in 2005, when he was 20 years old.
Diaz made his boxing debut less than one year ago, losing a 10-round unanimous decision to Jake Paul in August 2023.
