B.J. Penn’s mixed martial arts career has been anything but remarkable for the better part of the past decade, but the UFC Hall of Famer isn’t ready to retire from the sport just yet.
The former lightweight and welterweight champion is set to face Clay Guida at UFC 237 on May 11 in Rio de Janeiro, according to multiple reports.
Penn (16–13–2) most recently fought at UFC 232 in December where he was submitted for the first time in his MMA career thanks to a Ryan Hall heel hook. The 40-year-old Hawaiian’s last win was a 23-second knockout of Matt Hughes back in 2010 and Penn is 1-8-1 overall since 2009.
Guida (34-18) has been a staple of the UFC’s 155-pound division since 2006. Back in 2009, Guida lost a split decision to Diego Sanchez that, had he won it, he would have earned a title shot against Penn who at the time was the lightweight champ. The 34-year-old last competed at UFC 225 in June, losing by submission to Charles Oliveira.
The UFC 237 main event has yet to be announced.
