CM Punk was beaten, battered and choked in his unsuccessful mixed martial arts debut Saturday at UFC 203 in Cleveland.

The former WWE superstar lasted two minutes, 14 seconds and didn’t even land one significant strike. He did, however, get paid handsomely for the endeavour.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, earned a based purse of US$500,000 according to the Ohio Athletic Commission. It’s also expected that he will earn additional dollars depending on how many pay-per-views were sold.

Compare that to his 24-year-old opponent Mickey Gall who walked away with just $30,000 — $15,000 to show and an additional $15,000 because he won.

The top two earners on the night were headliners Stipe Miocic ($600,000) and Alistair Overeem ($800,000).
