It certainly didn’t take long for Alex Garcia to make an impression on UFC fans.
In fact, it took the Tristar Gym product just 43 seconds to pick up his first UFC win, as he knocked out Ben Wall in his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane, Australia.
Garcia found his distance early and landed a perfectly timed uppercut that dropped Wall before the referee stepped in.
“I saw him trying to shoot and I set [the uppercut] up with the jab,” an elated Garcia said after his win. “I waited a long time [to get to the UFC], but finally I made it. I can show you more in the future.”
Garcia (11-1) joins his Tristar teammates Georges St-Pierre and Rory MacDonald in the crowded UFC welterweight division.
The Dominican, who lives and trains in Montreal, possesses a combination of athleticism, striking and grappling skills, which is why he’s one of the most highly touted prospect at 170 pounds right now.
The loss was the first of Wall’s career. The Australian, who typically fights at lightweight, is now 7-1. He took this fight on short notice to replace Andres Stahl, who was forced off the card for undisclosed reasons.
