Canadian John Alessio got back to his winning ways, defeating Eric Wisely at Bellator 119 Friday.
Alessio (35-17, 1 NC) controlled Wisely on the ground in the first, beat him to the punch on the feet in the second and used his size in the third to implement a ground-and-pound attack en route to a unanimous decision victory.
The win was Alessio’s first since beating Ryan Healy in the now-defunct Score Fighting Series back in March 2012.
In the main event, Daniel Weichel submitted Desmond Green with a rear-naked choke to win the promotion’s Season 10 Featherweight Tournament.
Weichel (34-8) rocked Green with several punches in the second round and eventually locked in the fight-ending submission to extend his win streak to six. The 29-year-old German earned a title shot with the win.
Also on the main card, standout welterweight striker Marius Zaromskis picked up a unanimous decision over Vaughn Anderson. It was Zaromskis’ first fight in nearly 16 months and his first win since September 2012.
Heavyweights Raphael Butler and Nick Rossborough fought to a split draw. Butler would have won a unanimous decision, however he was deducted a point in the first round for head-butting his opponent.
In preliminary action, London, Ont.’s Chris Horodecki fell short against Marlon Sandro, losing a unanimous decision. Horodecki fell to 1-2-1 under the Bellator banner.
The event, which took place at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ont., also featured Brian Rogers knocking out Adrian Miles with this incredible flying knee.
