Rousey vs. McMann named UFC 170 main event

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will have a quick turnaround following her win over Miesha Tate at UFC 168.

Rousey will headline UFC 170 against Sara McMann on Feb. 22 in Las Vegas.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement at the UFC 168 post-fight press conference.

Rousey (7-0) picked up her seventh career pro victory by armbar at UFC 168, though Tate was her first opponent to make it out of the first round.

Like Rousey, McMann is an Olympic medallist. The South Carolina resident won a silver medal in freestyle wrestling at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, while Rousey won a bronze in 2008 in Beijing.

McMann (7-0) won her UFC debut in April, defeating Sheila Gaff by first-round TKO at UFC 159. She was forced to withdraw from a bout with Canadian Sarah Kaufmann in August.

The news comes just days after White stated that Cat Zingano is still the No. 1 contender in the division. White explained that Zingano, who is recovering from knee surgery, will begin training again in March.

A light-heavyweight bout between 205-pound contenders Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier was originally scheduled to headline UFC 170 but that fight has been bumped to the co-main event.

A lightweight bout between unbeaten Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez has also been added to the card.
