Warner, from London, Ont., placed first in the opening event, the 100 metres, with a time of 10.27 seconds, followed by Whitby's LePage in a time of 10.39.
Warner followed that up by taking first in the long jump as well, with a leap of 7.87 metres, while LePage was seventh with a season's-best result of 7.54 metres.
In the shot put, LePage slipped back with a toss of 14.83 metres to place 13th. Warner, meanwhile posted a season's best throw of 14.99 to place eighth.
After three events, Warner was sitting with 2,846 points, followed by American Zachery Ziemek with 2,756 and then Ayden Owens-Delerme of Puerto Rico at 2,728. LePage was in fourth with 2,725.
The athletes will compete in the high jump and 400 metres in the evening portion of the two-day event.
Warner is the first Canadian to win Olympic decathlon when he took gold in Tokyo last summer. LePage finished fifth at that event, his first trip to the five-ring circus, and has won PanAm and Commonwealth silver.
