Boxing great Mike Tyson says his next fight will be against Lennox Lewis, a rematch of their bout in 2002.
“I’m gonna fight Lennox Lewis,” Tyson told TMZ Tuesday night after cameras caught him leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles. When asked when the fight will be, Tyson said “September” before closing his car door.
Tyson has been looking for another fight ever since he came out of retirement to fight Roy Jones Jr. to a draw in November. In March, Tyson said he had a fight in place with Evander Holyfield at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium this May, but negotiations for that fight eventually fell through.
Lewis famously knocked Tyson out in eight rounds in Memphis in June 2002, successfully defending his title as undisputed heavyweight champion. Tyson discussed wanting to get another shot at Lewis in an April episode of his Hotboxin’ Podcast.
“I want both of them, I want to get them both this year,” Tyson said, according to TalkSport.com. “I also want to box an exhibition with Tyson Fury.
“If I do that – even if I can get those two guys [Lewis and Holyfield], I’ll say, ‘This is a wrap, I’m just gonna live life.’
“And that’s just exhibitions. I’m gonna break all my professional true records with exhibitions.”
