CALGARY — Canadian professional wrestler Bret Hart says he’s "on the long road to recovery" after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer.

Posting on his verified Instagram account, the grappler known as "The Hitman" thanked his doctor and the nursing staff at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary for "an outstanding job."

He also thanked his family, friends, and fans for their love and support, adding that "things are looking up" and he was expecting to be home in the next few days.

"In the words of (World Wrestling Entertainment chairman and CEO) Vince McMahon: ‘It’s onwards and upwards," he said in the Instagram post.

The 58-year-old disclosed his cancer diagnosis on social media earlier this month.

Hart has had serious health issues before.

He suffered a significant stroke in 2002 that left him partially paralyzed, but made a successful recovery.

Hart was born into a legendary wrestling family led by his father Stu Hart, the founder of Calgary’s Stampede Wrestling promotion.
