EDMONTON — Canada’s women’s basketball team will host Brazil in a three-game exhibition series in Edmonton as part of preparations for the world championships.

The No. 9-ranked Canadians open camp at their new training base in Edmonton on June 9, then host the No. 7 Brazilians in the Edmonton Grads International Classic on June 26, 27, and 28.

"Our women have an extensive training session this summer preparing them for the best possible result at the worlds in Turkey this September," Denise Dignard, Canada Basketball’s director of women’s high performance, said in a release. "Training here in Edmonton builds on the storied tradition of women’s basketball that began with the Edmonton Grads that won the first ever world women’s title in 1924. It is truly inspirational."

Canada will hold two more camps in Edmonton and then travel to Europe for an exhibition tour before the Sept. 27-Oct. 5 world championships.
