Evans vs. Davis headlines UFC on Fox 2

A light-heavyweight bout between top contenders Rashad Evans and Phil (Mr. Wonderful) Davis will reportedly headline the UFC’s second Fox event.

UFC on Fox 2 will take place on Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago, according to ESPN.

Evans and Davis were originally scheduled to meet in the main event at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, however, Davis was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury sustained in training. Instead, Evans fought Tito Ortiz, defeating him by TKO in the second round.

Evans (16-1-1) is a former light-heavyweight champion, who has been plagued with injuries of late. The 32-year-old has fought just three time in the past two-and-a-half years. During that span – in addition to beating Ortiz – Evans won unanimous decisions over Quinton (Rampage) Jackson and Thiago Silva.

Davis (9-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24 in March. Outside of champion Jon Jones, Davis is touted as the top prospect in the light-heavyweight division. In his three-year career Davis has defeated the likes of Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson and Tim Boetsch.

Other fights tentatively scheduled for UFC on Fox 2 include a bantamweight bout between Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Wineland. Heavyweights Jon Olav Einemo and Mike Russow are scheduled to meet.

In other UFC news:

TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah will fight Jorge Lopez in welterweight action at UFC 143.

Undefeated judo specialist Michael Kuiper will make his UFC debut against Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Rafael Natal at middleweight. UFC 143 is headlined by a welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz. The co-main event features Carlos Condit taking on Josh Koscheck.
