FRANKFURT, Germany — German high jumper Ariane Friedrich has pulled out of next month’s athletics world championships in Moscow because of a knee injury.
Friedrich’s manager, Guenter Eisinger, says she won’t be able to recover in time to clear the 1.95-meter qualifying mark set by the German federation.
Friedrich was injured at a meet in Germany on June 21. She won the bronze medal at the 2009 world championships but has been set back by a series of injuries since then. She has not cleared 2 metres since tearing her Achilles tendon in December 2010.
