GATINEAU, Que. — Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., produced a consistent semifinal performance Thursday to lead women’s three-metre event at the Canada Cup FINA Diving Grand Prix.

Abel was the only diver in her semifinal to not make any noticeable mistakes and totalled 349.85 points. Chunting Wu of China was her closest pursuer at 315.80 and Uschi Freitag of the Netherlands third at 298.85.

Lin Qu of China was the top diver in the other semi at 315.25. The top-three from each of the two semis advance to the final on Saturday.

Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of St-Constant, Que., was fourth in her semi heat for seventh overall.

Eloise Belanger of Montreal was 12th in the prelims but each country is limited to two semifinalists and she was not able to advance. Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., failed a dive in the morning preliminaries and did not advance.

On men’s 10-metre, Vincent Riendeau of Pointe-Claire, Que., was fifth in his semifinal heat and placed eighth overall. Anqi Wang of China and Martin Wolfram of Germany were the top semfinalists.

Competition continues Friday with the prelims and semis on women’s 10-metre tower and men’s three-metre.
