LONDON, Ont. — Joannie Rochette, who captured bronze in one of the most memorable performances of the Vancouver Olympics, will be the athlete ambassador for the 2013 world figure skating championships.
Rochette won bronze at the 2010 Games less than a week after the death of her mom.
The 26-year-old also competed in seven world championships, winning silver at the 2009 worlds in Los Angeles.
The 2013 world championships will be held March 11-17 at the Budweiser Gardens in London, Ont.
"I am so honoured to be the athlete ambassador," Rochette said in a statement. "Skaters from other countries love to compete in Canada at this event. They know the fans will be supportive, knowledgeable, and will cheer for all the athletes.
"I competed (in London) for the Canadian championships and it is a great arena, with a very intimate feel in the building. I know that fans will see great performances from all of the skaters."
