MONTREAL — Short-track speedskater Francois-Louis Tremblay is ending a career that saw him win five Olympic medals.

Tremblay failed in his bid to make the Canadian team for the Sochi Olympics next February.

The Quebec native will be 33 this November and along with Marc Gagnon is the only Canadian man to win five Winter Olympic medals.

He won gold in the 5,000-metre relay at both the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and the 2010 Vancouver Games.

Tremblay won two silver medals in Turin in 2006 — one in the 500 metres and the other in the 5,000-metre relay.

His lone Olympic bronze came in Vancouver in the 500-metre race.
