BERN, Switzerland — Daniel Albrecht has undergone surgery in Switzerland after seriously injuring his left knee in a training crash on the World Cup downhill course in Lake Louise, Alberta.

The Swiss ski federation says Albrecht arrived home Tuesday and went directly to a hospital in Bern.

The team says the 29-year-old racer had a successful operation on a dislocated kneecap and torn ligaments.

Albrehct was preparing to start his first World Cup downhill since a horrific crash in training in Kitzbuehel, Austria, in January 2009. He spent 16 days in an induced coma to recover from brain and lung injuries.

Albrecht was the 2007 world champion in super-combined and is a four-time winner on the World Cup circuit.
