UFC notes: Henderson-Miller set for Aug. 14

LAS VEGAS — Former WEC champion Ben (Smooth) Henderson will take on top lightweight contender Jim Miller at a televised UFC event in August.

Henderson (13-2) is coming off a decision win over Canadian Mark Bocek at UFC 129 in Toronto. Miller (20-2) is currently riding a seven-fight win streak.

The top-ranked 155-pounders are the last two fighters to beat Bocek. Miller, who defeated Kamal Shalorus by TKO in March, won a unanimous decision over Bocek a year ealier.

The card, which will air in Canada on Sportsnet, is expected to take place Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Also, light-heavyweight Stephan Bonnar will take on England-based Czech Karlos Vemola. Other fights expected on the card are welterweight Duane (Bang) Ludwig against Amir Sadollah and lightweight T.J. O’Brien against Cole Miller.

In other UFC news, "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 12 winner Jonathan Brookins has been forced to withdraw from the TUF 13 live finale due to injury. Lightweight Danny Downes is stepping in to replace Brookins against Jeremy (Lil Heathen) Stephens (19-6). Downes (7-1) is coming off a win over China’s Tiequan Zhang at the final WEC event in December. The TUF finale is scheduled for June 4 in Las Vegas.

UFC 129 SUSPENSIONS — UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre faces a 60-day medical suspension for the eye injury suffered in his UFC 129 win over Jake Shields on April 30 in Toronto.

The Ontario Athletics Commission released the list of medical bans on Tuesday.

All of the fighters received a two-week suspension at a minimum.

Mark Hominick of Thamesford, Ont., Sean Pierson of Pickering, Ont., Randy Couture, Jason Brilz, Carlos Valencia, and Kyle Watson all got 60-day suspensions.

LEGAL NOTES — According to MMAjunkie.com, the UFC has cut Maiquel Falcao, who has been dealing with legal matters stemming from a 2002 arrest that eventually led to an assault charge. The Brazilian was detained by authorities a couple weeks after a win in his UFC debut in December but released after a few days and given 18 months probabtion … The California State Athletic Commission has re-suspended the licence to fight for Chael Sonnen, this time indefinitely as it reviews his testimony from December, when he attended a hearing for elevated levels of testosterone and was suspended six months. Sonnen is appealing the latest ruling and will appear at another commission hearing on May 18.
