Alexandre Sarr goes scoreless in his second Summer League outing

Alexandre Sarr went scoreless in his second Summer League game as his Washington Wizards fell short, 82-80 against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

The second-overall selection in the 2024 NBA Draft finished with fifteen shot attempts, seven from beyond the arc, with none of them to finding the net, in just under 30 minutes of action.

A key factor to Sarr’s offensive struggles came from the Trail Blazers’ seventh-overall selection, Donovan Clingan. The next big man to be taken in the draft held down the paint for his team, posting eight points, 13 rebounds and five blocks — with one coming at the expense of Sarr who was driving to the basket.

Sarr did manage to establish his own presence on the defensive end, as the 19-year-old recorded nine rebounds, three blocks and a steal while also adding three assists.

The France product showed a contrast to his Summer League debut, where he went toe-to-toe with the first overall pick in the draft, Zaccharie Risacher and the Atlanta Hawks. There, he finished with 12 points — six of which were off two difficult pull-up threes, along with seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks en route to the win.

Carlton Carrington, the Wizards’ 14th overall pick, carried the load offensively against the Blazers, finishing with a team-high 20 points. Former Toronto Raptor, Justin Champagnie held his own as well, tallying 13 points and nine rebounds on 50 per cent shooting for Washington.
