The Philadelphia 76ers' tumultuous season took yet another turn for the worse.
Guard Eric Gordon is set to miss the remainder of the regular season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist, the team announced Thursday.
Gordon has been out since Feb. 9 with a wrist issue, missing the team's last six games. He met with several specialists about the problem before opting for surgery, head coach Nick Nurse told reporters earlier last week.
The 36-year-old joined Philadelphia in the off-season, signing a two-year, $6.7-million deal that includes a player option for next season for $3.5 million.
In 39 games for the 76ers this season, the veteran shooting guard is averaging a career-low 6.8 points with 1.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 42.6 per cent from the field and 40.9 per cent from three-point range.
The 76ers have dealt with a plethora of injuries this season, derailing their high hopes. Former MVP Joel Embiid has suited up for only 19 games, nine-time All-Star Paul George has missed 19 games and standout rookie Jared McCain suffered a season-ending meniscus injury in December.
In part due to the absences, the 76ers have lost nine straight games and are 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-38 record.
