The reigning MVP is officially returning to the court for a Monday matinee.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced that centre Joel Embiid will make his return after missing the past four games on Monday against the Houston Rockets.
The 76ers were 1-2 in the three games that Embiid missed.
The 2023 MVP has put up dominant numbers, as the 29-year-old has averaged 34.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, and a career high six assists on 53 per cent shooting so far this season.
However, due to the new CBA that was approved last year, players who want to be eligible for awards such as Most Valuable Player must play a minimum of 65 games. Embiid has missed 10 of the Sixers' 37 games played this season.
If Embiid misses eight more games, he will pass the 65 game minimum, meaning he would be automatically eliminated from contention of defending his title.
