Vince Carter's No. 15 jersey still hasn't made its way into the rafters at Scotiabank Arena but speculation has already begun as to whose jersey will hang beside it.
The consensus belief is that Kyle Lowry's No. 7 belongs in that spot, and the former Raptor, now 76er was asked about that possibility on Tuesday.
"If I go up there, hopefully one day it happens, it'll be a very emotional, fun night," Lowry said, according to Leigh Ellis of Basketball Passport. "We'll see when that time comes, if that time comes. ...
"If it goes up, I'll be happy to be able to say I did something for a place that I called my home."
His case for a spot in the rafters is rather cut and dry, as the tenured guard leads the franchise in all-time win shares (74.5), assists (4,277), steals (873), three-pointers (1,518) and is second in points (10,540).
Over his nine seasons in Toronto, the 38-year-old made six All-Star teams, made the All-NBA Third Team in 2016 and was a key piece to the team's one and only NBA Championship in 2019.
Nick Nurse, the head coach of that championship team and now the bench boss for the Philadelphia 76ers, was asked about Lowry's jersey retirement prospects and if he expects his point guard to earn the honour one day.
"I would think so, yeah," Nurse said. "They'll probably put a statue of Kyle out front of that arena taking a charge. It would be the first statue of someone taking a charge."
There might not be a player more synonymous with the charge than Kyle Lowry, who leads the NBA all-time in charges drawn with 259.
Carter will see his jersey go up to the rafters on Nov. 2 against the Sacramento Kings.
