Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank has been named 2019-20 NBA executive of the year, the league announced on Thursday.
Frank, who has served in the Clippers’ front office since 2016, received 10 of 29 first-place votes, while Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti finished second, and Miami Heat president Pat Riley rounded out the top three.
Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri finished 5th with two first-place votes. The voting was conducted based on regular-season games played through March 11.
Frank’s Clippers played to a 44-20 record through March 11, good for second-best in the Western Conference, after acquiring two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and six-time All-Star Paul George in the off-season.
Despite a successful regular season, Frank’s Clippers ended the playoffs in disappointing fashion after falling to the Denver Nuggets in the second round in seven games. Not soon after, on Sept. 28, head coach Doc Rivers stepped down from his position with the team.
