Promising young forward GG Jackson will have a late start to his second year in the league.
The Memphis Grizzlies power forward suffered a broken right foot earlier this week and will undergo surgery, the team announced on Friday.
According to the team, he suffered the injury while playing basketball in Dallas and broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot. The surgery is scheduled for Sep. 4, with further updates to be provided then.
Jackson, 19, enjoyed a standout rookie campaign last season, earning a spot on the all-rookie second team after averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists a game on 42.8 per cent shooting from the field and 35.7 per cent from three-point range.
The 45th-overall pick in the draft, Jackson made a strong impression filling in on a Grizzlies team rife with injuries over the course of a tumultuous season. He made 48 appearances with 18 starts under his belt.
