Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young left Wednesday’s matchup against the New York Knicks due to a left ankle sprain. The team announced he would not return.
The injury occurred late in the third quarter. After launching a mid-range jumper, Young landed awkwardly on his left leg and was unable to get up. He stayed on the ground in severe pain for several moments before being helped off the court by team staff.
The injury occurred on the same leg that had a bruised calf recently, an injury that kept him out of the lineup against the Toronto Raptors last week.
In his third year, Young is averaging 25.4 points and 9.5 assists per game in 53 games played.
