Jimmy Butler has signed a four-year, $184 million extension to stay with the Miami Heat, the team announced Saturday.
The deal, which includes a player option according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, runs through the 2025-2026 season.
“I’m excited about this upcoming season,” Butler said in a statement. “Good players find a way to play good basketball. We have a lot of those types of guys on this team.”
Butler averaged 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game on 49.7 per cent shooting in 52 games with the Heat this past season. The 31-year-old led the team to the NBA Finals in 2019-20 and, after a transformative off-season in Miami, will be looking to repeat the performance.
Locking in Butler long-term marks the latest in a flurry of free agency changes for Miami.
The Heat sent waves through the Eastern Conference by acquiring Kyle Lowry, one of the most sought after free agents this summer, in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors. That deal saw Miami part ways with longtime point guard Goran Dragic, who was a part of the Butler-led team that made it to the Finals, and Precious Achiuwa.
“Jimmy is the anchor and face of our franchise along with Bam [Adebayo] and Kyle,” Pat Riley, president of the Heat, said in a statement. “With Jimmy, we get an All-NBA player, an All-NBA Defensive player, tough as nails and a complete player across the board.”
