The reigning NBA MVP had some high praise for the league's next great superstar after their matchup on Friday.
Denver Nuggets franchise player Nikola Jokic said that Victor Wembanyama will be "remembered forever" after a 113-110 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
"I think he's a special player, I think he's one of a kind," said Jokic to reporters after the game. "He's going to be remembered forever."
It was a heavyweight bout between the two dominant big men. Wembanyama recorded 38 points and 15 rebounds in the game and Jokic had 41 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists.
Wembanyama, 21, is quickly becoming one of the association's premiere talents after winning rookie of the year last season. The seven-foot-three centre is averaging 25.6 points, 10 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game.
"I think he's better this year than last year, I think he's going to get even better," said Jokic.
The sensational sophomore has recorded two games this season with over 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals and five blocks. A feat that hadn't been achieved in the NBA in the previous 30 years.
Jokic has won the MVP in three of the past four seasons, and is second behind Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the betting odds for the award this season. They both might have some competition in coming seasons as Wembanyama comes into his own.
