Canadian RJ Barrett has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the New York Knicks.
Terms of the deal were not released by the team but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that it was worth up to $120 million.
The 22-year-old Barrett, from Mississauga, Ont., becomes the youngest player in Knicks history to earn a $100-million deal. Barrett is also the first Knicks first-round pick to sign a multi-year extension with the franchise since Charlie Ward in 1994.
Barrett averaged a career-high 20 points to go along with 5.8 rebounds and three assists last season, his third in the NBA.
The extension comes after speculation that the Knicks were interested in making a deal with the Utah Jazz for Donovan Mitchell who was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Knicks picked the Duke product third overall in the 2019 draft.
Barrett also is a key part of the Canadian national men's senior team as they try to qualify for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and 2024 Olympics.
