The king is one step closer to returning.
According to an ESPN report by Shams Charania, LeBron James had his first on-court workout on Sunday since sustaining a groin strain March 8 against the Boston Celtics.
Meanwhile, the Lakers' newest megastar, Luka Doncic, will return to action on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns after a one-game absence due to left calf injury management and a right ankle sprain.
The five-time all-star has averaged 26.1 points, 7.6 assists and 8.6 rebounds in 13 games with the Lakers since he was acquired in the Lakers-Mavericks blockbuster last month.
James, 40, has missed the Lakers' last three games with the injury; initial reports predicted him to return after one to two weeks.
The NBA's all-time leading scorer, James, is averaging 25.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 34.9 minutes over 58 games this season.
The Lakers have lost their last four straight including the game where James suffered the injury. The team was 9-2 since Luka Doncic's debut on Feb.11 – including an eight-game winning streak – prior to James going down.
James left the game against the Celtics during a timeout with 6:44 to play after contesting a layup by Jaylen Brown. He appeared to be experiencing discomfort as he walked to the huddle during the timeout before making his way to the locker room.
The all-time great has been listed as out for the Lakers game against the Suns on Sunday, with James' next opportunity to return coming on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs.
