The Dallas Mavericks will be holding their breath after All-Star guard Luka Doncic suffered an injury earlier this week.
Dallas announced Wednesday that Doncic sustained a left calf contusion during workouts this week and will be re-evaluated as necessary in one week.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Doncic suffered the injury in Dallas ahead of the Mavericks' training camp in Las Vegas.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports that there is no concern about Doncic being ready for the regular-season opener.
Doncic is coming off the best season of his career. The 25-year-old finished third in MVP voting, led the NBA in scoring with 33.9 points per game and led the Mavericks back to the NBA Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics in five games.
In addition to his scoring exploits, the five-time All-Star averaged 9.8 assists and 9.2 rebounds per game, recording 21 triple-doubles over 70 contests.
With Doncic and co-star Kyrie Irving being joined by four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson this season in Dallas, expectations have never been higher for a Doncic-led squad.
