Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment is set to donate 1,200 pounds of food to Second Harvest, a Canadian food rescue organization, after the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors games at Scotiabank Arena were postponed.
The NHL has paused the season through Christmas Day. The Leafs were scheduled to host the St. Louis Blues Thursday night.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has said the league will not pause despite many clubs — including the Raptors — dealing with large COVID-19 outbreaks. The Raptors have had three of their past four games postponed.
On Dec. 19, the Ontario government stipulated that concessions must be closed at indoor venues.
The Vancouver Canucks made a similar donation after their games were postponed over the weekend, donating the food to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
