The second annual in-season tournament, now known as the NBA Cup, tips off Tuesday.
All 30 teams have been randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on win-loss records from the 2023-24 regular season. Each team will play four designated Group Play games on “Cup Nights” — one game against each opponent in its group, with two games at home and two on the road on Tuesdays and Fridays through to Dec. 3.
The group-stage games will count in both the regular season and NBA Cup standings. After the group stage, the top team in each group and two wild cards will advance to the quarterfinals while the other teams will have additional regular season games scheduled. The semifinals (on Dec. 14) and championship (Dec. 17) will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
