The Brooklyn Nets announced that Ben Simmons has undergone successful back surgery and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Simmons will require an initial recovery of around three weeks before beginning his rehab program.
The 25-year-old didn’t play at all for the Philadelphia 76ers before requesting a trade, citing mental health concerns. He was dealt to Brooklyn in February in a deal involving James Harden, but was bothered by his back while trying to rebuild his conditioning.
The Nets originally said the forward had back spasms but later stated that the problem was a herniated disk. Simmons eventually resumed workouts and hoped to make his debut during the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, but that plan was scrapped when he experienced more pain.
