The Kyrie Irving blockbuster that was reported Sunday is finally official with the teams announcing the trade on Monday.
The Dallas Mavericks will receive Irving and Markieff Morris, while the Brooklyn Nets will bring in Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick and a second-round pick in both 2027 and 2029.
Before the trade was made official Monday, NBA correspondent Marc Stein reported that the Nets had "explored the feasibility" of packaging the newly acquired Dinwiddie with draft capital in hopes of acquiring Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet.
With the deal now official, trading Dinwiddie for VanVleet becomes more difficult, as NBA rules state that now Dinwiddie can't be combined with any other players in a trade. He is still eligible to be moved, but it has to be a one-for-one deal.
The Raptors are sure to be rumoured in a number of reports in the coming days, as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that the majority of trade discussions just three days before Thursday's deadline revolve around the Raptors.
One of the names in the rumour mill is Raptors star forward Pascal Siakam, but Stein is also reporting that Toronto seems reluctant to part ways with the two-time All-NBA forward.
The Raptors just finished up a season-long road trip with a 4-3 record, and currently sit 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 25-30 overall record. They are just a half-game out of the conference's final spot in the NBA's play-in tournament.
And while it's undecided whether they will be buyers or sellers over the next few days, what is clear: they have some chips to play with.
The NBA's trade deadline is this Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
