Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers is making sure 2023 is his year.
The guard took the game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night into his own hands, scoring 71 points and crushing the former franchise record of 57 set by LeBron James in 2017.
He finished the game with 71 points on 22-34 from the field, 20-25 from the line, and 7-15 from long range. He also tacked on eight rebounds and 11 assists. Perhaps the highlight of the night, he sent the game to OT after grabbing his own rebound off a missed free throw and putting up a circus shot layup.
Mitchell is the seventh player in the history of the NBA to score 70 points and the first to ever have a 70-point 10-assist game. Since 2000, only Devin Booker and Kobe Bryant have scored more than 70 points.
