Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the team announced on Saturday.
Surgery will be required for the Montrealer. "The procedure will be performed by renowned surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles next week," the Pacers said in a statement.
Mathurin is averaging 14.5 points, four rebounds and two assists per game this season in 26.1 minutes of playing time over the course of his second NBA season. He was the MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge at All-Star weekend, which was played in Indianapolis.
A first-team selection to the All-Rookie team last season, Mathurin had 19 points Tuesday in a victory at Dallas before he was injured.
Just 21 years old, he was the sixth-overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft out of the University of Arizona.
The Pacers added that he was expected to fully recover in time for the 2024-25 season.
